We live in Oceanside and willingly drive past several other choices to eat at Al's Cafe at least 3 times a month. Weekends can be busy there but the food and service by their friendly staff (who really remember our names) is worth the short wait. Their menu choices are well thought out and make use of seasonal availabilities. I appreciate that most everything is made from scratch--not canned or pre-manufactured like most other places. We usually eat breakfast there, or lunch if we have a day off during the week. We also went for their Friday Nite fish fry where "all you can eat" fish tacos and fish and chips are an amazing deal. They told me they changed their type of fish to Alaskan Cod and it's wonderful. Oh, we also get their fresh fudge. A little goes a long way. Thanks for being there Al's Cafe. Ed and Janice

"fresh fudge--free tastes", 01-13-2010

Review:
It was Friday evening and we exited the freeway for gas. We saw a sign for this cafe and we noticed the "fresh fudge--free tastes" sign, so we stopped. Upon entering we were amazed at how busy the restaurant was--they were offering "all you can eat" fish and chips and fish tacos. The place was humming. I hated to bother them by asking for a freebie, so we put our name in for dinner. After a 10 minute wait we were seated by a very nice, efficient waitress. She took our wine order and we asked for one of each of the all you can eat specials. The food was perfectly prepared. It was hot, wholesome, and tasty. We'll be back again----we stopped for the fudge, and stayed to eat dinner. Great food and fudge.
